According to ChainCatcher news and CNBC reports, U.S. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce recently stated that meme coins like TRUMP Token are not within the SEC's regulatory scope, and investors should not expect regulatory protection.
Peirce told CNBC, "This situation is similar to what happened during the NFT boom in 2021. They are not securities, but their value fluctuates based on investor activity in the market. The SEC missed the opportunity to publicly announce that it would not intervene."
Peirce pointed out in an interview at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas: "Almost anything can be packaged as a security. But overall, it makes sense to let people know that I shouldn’t expect the SEC to provide protection in this area."
