UK media: If Trump withdraws from Ukraine peace talks, the EU has prepared a 'Plan B'.

On May 1, according to the Financial Times, senior EU diplomats said that the EU is preparing a "Plan B" on how the EU will maintain economic sanctions against Russia if the Trump administration abandons peace talks in Ukraine and seeks a rapprochement with Moscow. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kallas said: "Whether the Americans will leave (negotiations) is a question. We're seeing signs that they're thinking about whether they should leave Ukraine or not, rather than trying to come to a deal with Russia, because it's hard. Earlier, a spokesman for US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said: "If there is no progress, the United States will withdraw from the role of mediator in this process." Kallas said there is a "Plan B" to maintain economic pressure on Russia if Hungary blocks an extension of EU economic sanctions in July, but stressed that Brussels remains focused on keeping all member states aligned.
