On May 15, news emerged that Nathan McCauley, CEO of the crypto bank Anchorage Digital, dismissed reports about the company being investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at the Consensus 2025 conference in Toronto, calling the reports "sheer nonsense." Previously, Barron's reported that an AML task force under the DHS was reaching out to former employees of the company to understand its business operations. McCauley stated that the company has confirmed through lawyers that there is no investigation.

Anchorage Digital is known for its strict compliance and recently obtained the BitLicense issued by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) in December last year, which is one of the most difficult regulatory licenses to obtain in the encryption industry.
